A visit to the National Motorcycle Museum.
As I was recently passing by Birmingham (and it wasn’t a Friday so a visit to the LE Club’s spares shop in Bullers End wasn’t on) I thought I’d see if there were any LE Velos in the National Motorcycle Museum.
Luckily I found one in the entrance foyer (well, around the corner, but still in the free part) and an engine/transmission unit nearby. I used the opportunity to get a close look and compare with my project bike. The complete LE was a 1953 Mk11 and the detached unit was claimed to be a 1955 Mk11 200c lump (but I don’t think it is…). I took loads of photos and here’s a few of them.

Velocettes on display

A Mk11 1953 vintage (same age as me!)

Nicely done.

But not perfect!

Engine/transmission unit – 1955? 200cc?

Engine No. 6880

Two ‘close-together’ engine mount bolts.

Brake / drive like new.

Words for the motorcycle.

Having put this info and query onto the LE club forum I am pleased to say that the experts there agree with me, it has been wrongly marked up! 🙂
