A Visit to Bullers End….
As lockdown eases the L.E. Velo Club gradually started to use the club room and store room at Bullers End in Walsall. At first no visitors were allowed, but this week (in September 2020) they started to allow visitors, but by appointment only. I tried to make an appointment (admittedly with only a days notice), but got no reply, so, as I was in the area, a quite unusual occurrence, I went anyway.
I was met by a group of about 8 men upstairs in what looked like a club room, wearing masks and socially distancing. I was made welcome (especially as I had brought some biscuits) and a cuppa was made for me. I introduced myself and they did the same. I can’t remember all their names, but there was Robin, Mark, Colin and Andy. I chatted to Colin about editing the club magazine, On The Level (OTL). Then Robin showed me round the building, showing me the dispatch room, new spares store, old spares store, the workroom and bike storage space. All very interesting. Just as a matter of interest, the building was originally a saddle makers factory. Then I asked for BTH contact breakers… well, Robin and Mark now had a challenge and they went all out to find some, but after maybe 40 minutes of hunting they found none. So we really are in the realms of hens teeth with them. The search continues. Or does it?
I bought a club T-shirt and a sweat shirt, and bade them all a cheery goodbye. Next, ignition system plans…
