Well, there’s a surprise – I’ve become a volunteer at Drapers Windmill in Margate! I was shown round it about a year ago on a random unexpected visit, fell in love with the old mill and a few months later volunteered to help out in any way that I could. Here are a few pages showing how the mill works, what we, the mill workers, both volunteer and professional, are doing to look after it and some videos of the mill in action.
A short description of the mill – Built in 1845, it is a fully functioning wind and gas powered flour mill of the type known as a smock mill.
The mill’s website link is here and contains a detailed history, so I won’t repeat that here.
