Bits
I’ve been around the LE and drawn up a list of obvious parts I need to do the work and make the machine viable. Things like brake cables, gaskets and the like. A total order of about £100 worth of bits have now been ordered from the LE Owners club spares department. The prices are all very reasonable, just what an owners club should be. Now waiting for delivery…
Bottom issues…
Well, a bit jocular perhaps, but I mean the issues found once the sump was removed. Firstly, I was very surprised to find a lot of silicon sealant has been used, plus two layers of gasket where there should be one. Looking a bit ‘bodgy’ with all that, but let’s hope that’s all. Fingers crossed.
The sump was cleaned out. A couple of locking washers dropped out, plus a strange lump of something softish. No actual identification, but it could be a bit of wood, even an end of a pencil.
The oil filter was clogged with ancient oil, which is worrying as it indicates poor maintenance. But the mechanics all look good. The crank, conrods and pistons as far as I can see all look ok. I’m still tempted to take the top end off to give it a more thorough check.
